Cascade de la Vis is about an hour’s drive north of Montpellier. It’s a beautiful waterfall with clear water in which you’ll be able to swim and relax in the sun. At both sides are stones, flatten by the water of the river, which makes them perfect for your towel.
I came across this waterfall by accident. As we were searching for the Cirque de Navacelles (a large landform created by erosion) we spotted this amazing waterfall and just had to take a dive. Unfortunately we didn’t take our bathing suit, so we couldn’t jump directly into the water. But a few days later we came back to the spot and enjoyed our day.
The waterfall is not a natural waterfall, but that doesn’t make it any less fun. You can jump into the water from the side which is fun to do. Be careful where you walk because the stones that lie partly in the water can be very slippery! Put on some shoes with enough grip.
The river is something I have never seen before: Clear water runs through the stones which have been carved out little by little by the river. At some places its very deep! Take a look for yourself at the picture below and you will understand what I mean. It’s really a special phenomenon.
Close to the waterfall is a parking lot.
